Galerie Bart is proud to present the works of Hemaseh Manawi Rad and Lawrence James Bailey at Art Rotterdam 2025. Two exceptional textile artists whose approaches to needle and thread weave deeply personal and diverse narratives. Both artists draw inspiration from their immediate surroundings, using fabric as a medium to explore memory, identity, and the spaces they inhabit.Their pieces will invite viewers to immerse themselves in the textures, patterns, and profound emotional resonance that radiates from their craft.
Hemaseh Manawi Rad (1995, NL) Hemaseh’s work is a dialogue between cultures. Her Persian roots and current Western environment create friction in experiences. These triggers inspire her to create tactile and textile works that do justice to both cultures. Hemaseh tries to embrace the intermediate area between two cultures as one. The work balances between Middle Eastern and Western themes. The subjects visualised in the works are based on Hemaseh’s personal life, drawing from memories, traditions, stories and experiences. To feel at home, she chooses and models traditions from both cultures.
Lawrence James Bailey (1976, UK) grew up in the post-industrial ruins of 1980’s Britain before studying Fine Art at the Hull School of Art and later at De Ateliers in Amsterdam. His interest in geography, history, theatrical set design, suburban life, religious cults, protest movements, and folklore serve as points of reference in his work. People’s relationship with the landscape forms a backbone to this work – in particular how individuals use their surrounding environment for hidden, subversive or introverted acts.
