The fifth edition of the specialized art fair Drawing Room is bringing together a select group of international galleries from eight countries in the Santa Barbara Palace, right in the center of Madrid. The galleries will present drawings and works on paper by artists whose practice is closely linked to contemporary drawing. Galerie Bart is presenting works on paper by Lawrence James Bailey, Raymond Lemstra and Toni van Tiel.

The works by Lawrence James Bailey include series of colourful collages, monotypes on Chinese paper and drawings in ink. No matter which medium Lawrence skillfully uses, the theme he focuses on stays the same: the exploration of the no man’s lands around cities and the human traces left behind in these otherwise natural environments.

The abstract heads made by Raymond are part of his Facing Seoul series, in which his paintings rest on a collage made of all kinds of pieces of paper and stickers assembled by Raymond from the streets of Seoul. During the fair, Raymond’s work is also on display in a group exhibition at the reknowned Collección SOLO.

Toni van Tiel creates fantastical buildings, monuments and streetscapes in his detailed gouaches, that combine absurdly colliding functions in one and the same object. His humorous sculptures on paper leave us viewers both surprised and amused.
